Peruvian fishmeal production to reach 900,000t

June 28, 2016, 2:58 pm

Peru's fishmeal production will hit an estimated 900,000 metric tons this year, 7% growth that occurred after 2015's El Nino, a bank estimated.
The Peruvian newspaper El Comercio reported that Scotia Bank believes that fishermen will capture 3.9mt of anchovy, which will enable producers to hit the 900,000t production level.
Peru produces nearly a fifth of the world's fishmeal and comprises a third of global exports.
In making this season's production forecast, the bank cited a report from Peru's marine institute, which forecast that the El Nino effect has given way to La Nina weather conditions, which are better for the anchovy biomass.
